About The Project
The Peer Action Collective (PAC) was a youth-led programme that empowered young people to explore issues affecting their communities and take action to create positive change. Through research, community engagement and social action projects, participants developed new skills, shared their experiences and worked alongside local organisations to influence change on issues that mattered to them.

In Middlesbrough, our work focused on understanding young people's experiences of racism and exploring the relationship between racism and youth violence. Working with young people who had been directly affected by racism, we created opportunities for them to share their experiences, shape the research and influence conversations around equality, inclusion and community safety.

Does My Race Bother You?
Working with young people who had experienced racism firsthand, we transformed research findings into action. Participants collaborated with local artist Betti Dooley to create Does My Race Bother You?, a powerful artwork inspired by their experiences, feelings and hopes for change. The piece was showcased at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle and later toured venues across the North East, helping to raise awareness, challenge perceptions and spark important conversations about racism and its impact on young people.
